Over the next couple weeks they look into Hae’s boyfriends/ex boyfriends. Sarah then proceeds to describe how they started to investigate the case when it was just a missing person case.
Episode opens up introducing Ritz and MacGillivary as the detectives on the case. 
(unable to find last name)ĭiscuss the man who found Hae’s body in Leakin Park. Greg MacGillivary, Detective on Hae’s caseĭon, Hae’s new boyfriend. First that he had asked for a ride, and later he said he did not ask for a ride. It turns out that Adnan told two separate officers a different story.
But there was talk about Adnan asking for a ride that day. It turns out that no one actually testified that they saw Hae and Adnan leave school together.
At one point Adnan and Hae’s new boyfriend both check out Hae’s car together after she gets into an accident.
After some time passes, Adnan begins dating other girls and Hae and him become cordial once again. Sarah says that when she spoke to Adnan’s friends they said he wasn’t angry, he was just a normal grumbly teenage boy who had just been broken up with. The state uses this against Adnan as well, jealousy over a new boyfriend. Next Hae writes of conflicting feelings between Adnan and this coworker. According to the diary, Hae and Adnan break up but get back together a month later. The court paints this as motivation for the murder but Saad describes the phone call from afterwards and how they had a laugh about it. On the night of Homecoming Adnan’s parent’s show up to physically remove Adnan from the dance. Adnan’s mom Shamim recalls eavesdropping on Adnan’s interactions with girls because she found it unacceptable even though the rest of the family wasn’t as bothered by it. Adnan says he doesn’t recognize himself in those entries and that is wasn’t as religious as Hae painted it. It also includes how Adnan confessed he’d have to choose between her and his religion at some point in the future. They include things like how bad Hae felt for being seen as a sin from Adnan and the Muslim perspective. Some diary entries start looking bad for Adnan and were actually used against him in trial. Hae doesn’t feel this way according to her diary. Although she admits her memory might be tainted by everything that has happened since she remembers thinking it wasn’t a big deal at the time. Aisha Pittman shares that she thought Adnan was a little over bearing of a boyfriend. Along the same lines, Adnan adds on that Hae and him shared a similar experiences with them both having immigrant parents. Aisha Pittman describes their little secret romance and how Hae would often tell her parents she was at Aisha’s when she was really with Adnan. It starts off bubbly and romantic with Adnan making cute gestures such as dancing with her instead of the prom queen. Hae’s journal shed’s light on the beginning of her and Adnan’s relationship.
